Getting Started: Invitations


When you’re ready to share your courses with the world, you can create what we call an invitation. Fancy, right? An invitation is simply you inviting a learner to take your course. There are two different types of invitations to choose from: Public or Private.

A public invitation creates a URL that can be copied and sent to anyone through your email provider or posted on a website. Anyone with the link can experience your content, and when they launch your training, it counts as a registration.

A private invitation generates a single registration for each learner that is emailed directly to them. 

It’s important to note that with private registrations, the registration counts towards your total registrations when the user is invited, not when the user begins using your content,

To create an invitation, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to SCORM Cloud at
  2. Choose the course you wish to share from your Library
  3. Click ‘Invite'


  1. Choose to send either a public or private invitation. Private invitations will require email addresses. You can also create a public invitation which will create the aforementioned public invitation URL.
  2. Click “Create Invitation” . This opens up the invitation information page. Here you can copy the public URL to share with your learners. Just copy the URL and put it wherever you like. Anything within the brackets in the body of the email will be filled in (i.e. the [Description] is pulled from the imsmanifest.xml file in the course package).


  3. If the learner receives a public invitation, they will be challenged to set up an account on the SCORM Cloud


  4. If the learner receives a private invitation, they will receive an email with a link to "play course"

If you attempt to send a learner an invitation to the same course, a modal will appear with an option to either send them a new invitation (which creates a new registration) OR resend the invitation (which will not create a new registration).


*In order to see all Private invitations in Reportage (including un-launched invitations), you'll need to change the date range criteria to include "Created Between Dates" .


  • Occasionally, we run into network settings that quarantine invitations sent through SCORM Cloud. Details on how to workaround that in the link here.

  • When you send a bulk invitation, you're not able to disable or delete it for a single user as any changes will affect the invitation for all users.
  • Please note, if Public invitations will be accessed on a shared computer, you'll need to clear the browser cache between users. Not doing so may result in reporting discrepancies. 
  • Also note, there's nothing stopping a user from forwarding an email invitation to another user. It could potentially overwrite previously committed data. If you require more restrictions, I would recommend looking into our API. This would give you control over learner authentication, etc.
