Content Controller 5.0 marks a significant expansion in how organizations manage and deliver diverse learning experiences. This release introduces support for virtual instructor-led training (VILT), external video platforms, and enhanced security for "outside-an-LMS" training.

Major New Features

Zoom Meeting Support for VILT

Content Controller now bridges the gap between live virtual training and standard eLearning. You can now import Zoom meetings and manage them in a central hub as trackable assets alongside your standards-based courses.

  • VILT Dispatch: Import Zoom events and dispatch them to client Learning Management Systems (LMS) as standards-based packages.
  • Learner Tracking: Automatically verify learner launches and duration, with data reporting back into Content Controller.
  • One-Time Setup: Content Controller users can connect their Zoom accounts once to enable seamless event importing.
  • Scope: This integration currently supports standard Zoom meetings specifically.

YouTube and Vimeo Support

Upload and manage externally hosted video content with the same precision as your local SCORM or cmi5 packages.

  • Direct Import: Import YouTube and Vimeo URLs directly into the course upload page.
  • Standards-Based Packaging: Wrap external videos as shareable packages for dispatching.
  • Progress Tracking: Set watch thresholds to track viewer progress and completion.

SAML SSO for Launcher

Launcher links, popular for sharing content without an LMS, now include an optional layer of enterprise-grade security.

  • Authenticated Access: Use your existing Identity Provider (IdP) to ensure only authorized users can access training links.
  • Attribute Mapping: Map learner IDs and names directly from your IdP to Content Controller for accurate reporting.
  • Frictionless Experience: Learners already signed into their corporate accounts can access content without a secondary login screen.
  • Built-in Testing: Includes a configuration testing feature to provide immediate feedback on SSO setup.

New Usage and Registration Reports

To better support registration-based licensing models, we have revamped how usage is tracked and displayed.

  • Registration Dashboard: A dedicated dashboard under Administration provides visibility into total registrations across client accounts.
  • Detailed Metrics: New reporting tracks active registrations to ensure data consistency.
  • CSV Exports: All registration and learner usage details can be exported for billing and contract management.

Quality of Life Improvements

This release also incorporates several updates from recent minor versions designed to streamline administrative workflows:

  • Account-Level Language Lists: Filter languages at the account level so localized learners see only relevant translations.
  • License Alerts: Configure license digest emails to send weekly and set alerts to trigger only when limits are exceeded.
  • Activity History: Generate CSV reports for activity within your custom Content Portals.
  • Search Precision: Resolved a bug to improve the accuracy of deep-linking searches within content bundles.

Breaking Changes

  • Database Encoding: Support for utf8mb4 encoding has been added.
  • Display ID Limit: A 500-character limit is now enforced for display IDs.
  • Playbook Updates: Updated playbook references to use content_vault instead of contentvault.
