What are the difference between 2nd and 4th editions of SCORM 2004?
At it's core there aren't a ton of difference between 2nd and 4th editions of SCORM 2004.
Here are a couple of things that jump out as changes between the 2 specifications.
Suspend data limit: 2nd edition decided to include an even lower limit to the suspend data bucket than SCORM 1.2. 2nd Edition has a limit of 4000 characters, while SCORM 2004 4th edition has a limit of 64000 characters. The suspend data bucket is basically a place for a course to put things...once you hit the limit, you end up losing runtime elements like bookmarking, status, etc...
4th Edition Features:
Weighted Completion Data Rollup - SCORM 2004 has always been able to roll up the score by weight in a multi-sco scenario, in 4th edition they expanded that to completion data...
Shared Data Buckets - 4th Edition allows you to share arbitrary sets of data between scos...
Jump Navigation Requests - This allows the learner to jump to other scos from within scos. For example our 4th Edition course allows you to jump to the test sco from within the content scos.
